Lincoln University has a long-standing strength in ecology teaching and research. We’ve been teaching ecology for over 50 years, and have a vibrant Department of Pest-management and Conservation.

The Department of Pest-management and Conservation teaches undergraduate and postgraduate courses, supervises postrgaduate research (M.Sc. and Ph.D.), and carries out nationally important and internationally recognised ecology and conservation research.

We’re also committed to making a difference on the ground and we’re involved with many conservation, restoration, and education projects in the wider community. A good example of this is our lead role in the 2014 Nina Valley EcoBlitz and the 2017 Lincoln Bioblitz. The Nina Valley Ecoblitz brought together 160 high school students from across Canterbury and Westland to work with 120 scientists, teachers, and support crew to discover and document species in the Nina Valley, Lewis Pass. The project won the national supreme Green Ribbon Award from the Ministry for the Environment.
